must do adoption fundraisers

Hi there lovelies!

Since starting the adoption journey in 2013, I have come across many avenues to raise awareness and funds for adoption. I thought it would be fun to share the ideas that we used in hopes to help fellow soon-to-be adoptive parents. Please feel free to email me {} with any extra questions. I LOVE receiving emails related to posts and I LOVE making new friends.

Fundraiser #1 : Announce that you are ADOPTING!

So, I guess this really isn’t a *fundraiser* but it’s super important to involve others in your journey to adopt your little love. A friend once told me that the adoption journey is not for the faint of heart.. Yes. So true. She knew exactly what she was talking about. And now that we’ve walked through it, I can say that it is a MUST to have family and friends constantly lifting you up in prayer and giving you support. You might talk yourself out of not sharing because “this is a private matter” and “you don’t need anyone’s help”, but friend, You do.

We simply just shared this photo with a little information in the caption on Facebook and Instagram. You could also create a video of you and your spouse sharing the journey of how you were lead to adopt. People will be moved to tears and ready to support your journey in whatever way they are able.

Fundraiser #2: Adoption Puzzle Fundraiser!

The biggest fundraiser and the most exciting one was our adoption puzzle fundraiser. This fundraiser is just precious.

Here are some easy to follow steps on how to get started:

1. a digital photo {make sure to choose a picture that has a lot of contrast // lesson learned there}

2. Find a company that creates puzzles and send the digital copy of the picture you are using {we used a company on Etsy and it was super easy}

3. After receiving the puzzle in the mail, you must make a decision on the minimum donation for each puzzle piece. We chose $10, but it’s completely up to you!

4. Then it’s time to share! Let your friends and family know about this fundraiser. Tell them that their name will be written on the back of a puzzle piece and hung in the baby’s room. It will be a forever reminder of how many people love him or her!76290_10152161852645630_1264028674_n

Fundraiser #3: Adoption Yard Sale!

Our precious friends had this awesome idea to have a yard sale to raise funds for our adoption. Boy, was it a brilliant one! We asked on Facebook and around town if anyone had items to donate. Everyone was super generous and just dropped items off at my parents’ house. When it was all over, we had the leftover items picked up by a local thrift store.10540871_808780621344_2732542129030855857_n

Fundraiser #4 : Raising Up 1

Raising Up 1 is a free fundraising platform for adoptive families and organizations helping children in need. We were the feature family last July and with the help of this organization we were able to raise funds to bring Baby B home. Check out the website if you are interested, you will not be disappointed!1486125_1432720750293491_661677201_oFundraiser #5 : Stella & Dot Online Adoption Fundraiser!

A precious friend of mine offered to head up this fundraiser for us. She is a super helpful and generous person, so this amazing idea did not surprise me. If you have friends that want to help you raise funds in different ways, let them! They will find such fulfillment and joy doing it because they know it is putting your family one step closer to meeting your precious little one.

Please know that there are more ideas out there, but these are just the ones we used. Please feel free to share your ideas with me that have worked for you. I would love for others to see new ideas. And go find me on IG @kbirkeland & on my Facebook page, Cheers To Plan A.  Much love to each of you!

  1. Thank you so much for this post. My husband and I are waiting for our Adoption Application to be final approved and I am so very excited. We have been brainstorming different ways to raise funds for this journey, and this post helped with some great ideas.

      This is so exciting for you guys! Please let me know if I can be of any more help. I absolutely LOVE adoption and all to do with it! Much love to you and your growing family 🙂

  2. Phoenix Garza says:

    This has been really helpful! My husband and I are starting the research process but one thing that we were worried about was how we would pay for the adoption. I’ll be printing this out to add to my research binder! Thank you!

    • Kailey Birkeland says:

      Hi! I am so glad it was helpful & super congrats on beginning the adoption journey to your little love! Please let me know if I can ever help you!

  3. Roberta McNulty Simantel says:

    Kailey!! Oh my!! I totally came across this page doing research… through pinterest of course lol! We are adopting too!

  4. Thank you for the awesome post! I’m totally going to use the puzzle and yard sale ideas (just ordered 3 puzzles! *happy dance*). We want to do a silent auction too. I’d appreciate knowing if you ended up needing a tax ID or anything for doing the fundraising? Or can you just receive the items as yourselves and then just provide the documentation to the accountant that it was donations for the adoption? Thank you again for the great information and thank you, in advance, if you’re able to respond!
